    So firstly, if you are starting from scratch, we would advise that you complete the Earth Loop Testing and Insulation Resistance / Earth Continuity Testing courses as safety must be number one. You can find information about our online training for these below:

    Then, you would need some Electrical Safety Test meters, as listed / recommended on the Safety Test pages.
    Regarding tooling for repairs, Appliance Engineers only need basic hand tools, screwdrivers, spanners, sockets etc and to start out with, I would say a basic set would cost around £100 from B&Q and you could build on this as you get a few jobs under your belt.
